Department of Nutrition History

Department of Nutrition was established as Nutrition Unit at Faculty of Medicine Hasanuddin University in 1982 based on Dean Decree No.04 / SK-FIIK / UH / 2/82. This Unit was initiated by the late Prof, R. Satriono who then became the first Head of Department when the Unit was upgraded into a department in 1990. This Unit was responsible to teach basic nutrition and principles of clinical nutrition to undergraduate medical students through lectures and clinical skill laboratory. Academic staffs of the Department began to provide clinical nutrition service at Wahidin Sudiro Husodo Hospital-a regional referral hospital- in 1994 as functional medical staffs for both out-patients and in-patients. In 2008, Department of Nutrition which was led by Prof. Nurpudji Astuti Taslim, opened the first Clinical Nutrition Specialist Program in Indonesia after involved intimately in the assessment need and preparation of the curricula with other stakeholder such Indonesian Medical Association (Ikatan Dokter Indonesia), Indonesian Clinical Nutrition Physician Association (Persatuan Dokter Gizi Klinik Indonesia). This new study program was approved by Faculty of Medicine and Hasanuddin University by Dean Decree No 4342 / H4.8 / KP.48 / 2008 and Rector Decree No 3682 / H / P / 2008, respectively. This study program was later approved by Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education in 2010. Up to 2021, Clinical Nutrition Specialist Program has produced 90 graduates who have been working throughout Indonesia in many institutions as clinicians in hospitals, lecturers and researchers in higher education institutions and hospital managers. The study program has been accredited A (highest level of accreditation) by Indonesian Accreditation Agency for Higher Education in Health (LAM-PTKes) in 2010 and 2018.
